Problem

It was never really about the hair

Golden retriever sitting on the black and orange waterproof seat cover fitted across the back seat of a car

You said one trip. Down to the beach and back, and he'd sit still like he never does.

Three weeks later there's fur wound into the seat belt buckle, a muddy arc across the upholstery where his paws went, and two fine scratches in the trim that don't come out no matter what you rub into them.

So now you think about it first. The vet, fine, that's unavoidable. The weekend away, maybe next time. He hears the keys, he's already at the door, and you go on your own.

And the worst of it isn't the mess. It's that leaving him at home has quietly become the easy option.

He isn't the problem. The seat is.

Product

Why it works

  • The mesh window is the whole point

A see-through panel down the middle. Air moves through it, and he can see you from the back seat instead of staring at the back of a black wall. That's what settles most dogs down, and it's what the cheap covers leave out.

  • Waterproof, so it's a wipe and not a write-off

Quilted waterproof fabric with an anti-slip backing. Wet fur, sand, drool and claws land on this instead of your upholstery, and it stays put instead of bunching up under him at the first roundabout.

  • It covers the bits you forget

Side flaps over the door trim, a flap that drops down over the seat base, and a pocket on the side for the lead. Openings for the seat belts, so if you clip him in you can carry on clipping him in.

How it works

The window, the anchors and the beading

Three things in one photo, and they're the three that decide whether a cover is worth having. The mesh panel in the centre is what your dog sees you through. The clipped anchors are what stop the whole thing sliding forward under braking. And the close-up is water sitting on the surface instead of going through it — the difference between a wet dog after the beach and a wet seat for a fortnight.

Usage

Four straps, two anchors, and it's done

  1. Loop the straps over the headrests

Two at the front, two at the back. Clip the buckles and pull them tight.

  2. Push the anchors into the seat crease

That's what stops it sliding forward when you brake.

  3. Thread the seat belts through

The openings are already there, so a harness still clips in as normal.

It comes off as fast as it goes on, which matters the day someone else needs the back seat.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my car?
It's one size, 137 by 147 centimetres, which covers the full rear bench of most sedans, hatchbacks and SUVs. Take thirty seconds and measure your back seat from door to door before you order: if your bench is wider than 137 cm, this isn't the one and we'd rather you knew now. The four straps take up the slack on anything narrower. And if it still doesn't sit right once it's in the car, that's what the 90 days are for.
What's the difference between the two colours?
The cut, the fabric and the mesh window are identical. Classic Black is black throughout; Black & Orange is the same cover with orange trim around the edges. Same price, same size, same everything else — pick the one you'd rather look at in your rear-view mirror.
What's the mesh window actually for?
Two things. Air moves through it, so the back seat doesn't turn into a sealed black box on a hot day. And your dog can see you. A dog that can see its owner settles; a dog staring at the back of a solid panel often doesn't, and that's when the whining and the climbing start. It's the one feature that separates this from a fifty-dollar cover.
Will my dog slide around on it?
The backing is anti-slip and the anchors push down into the crease of the seat, which is what stops the whole cover creeping forward when you brake. That keeps the cover still. Keeping your dog still is a different job, and that's a harness — see the next question.
Is this a safety restraint?
No, and we'd rather say so plainly. A seat cover keeps your dog on the back seat and keeps your car clean. It is not a crash-tested restraint and it does not do a harness's job in a collision. That's why the cover has seat belt openings built in: so you can carry on using a proper harness with it. If anyone sells you a seat cover as a safety device, walk away.
Is it really waterproof?
The fabric is waterproof and quilted, which is what handles the wet-dog-after-the-beach trip. Water beads on the surface rather than soaking through to the seat. It's a cover, not a sealed tray, so if a full water bowl goes over and sits in a fold for an hour, get it up. For fur, mud, sand and drool — the everyday reality — it does the job it's there for.
How do I clean it?
Unclip it, open the side zips and wipe it down or hose it off, then let it dry before it goes back in. We're not going to tell you it's machine washable, because the supplier doesn't say that and a soaked quilted panel in a domestic machine is how covers get wrecked.
Can a person still sit in the back?
Yes. The front panel folds down over the seat base so the bench is usable, and the seat belt openings stay accessible. Ten seconds either way. Most owners leave it in permanently and only think about it when someone else gets in.
Will it stop the hair getting everywhere?
It stops the hair getting into the seat fabric and down the sides of the bench, which is the part you can never get out. It won't stop hair travelling around the cabin — nothing does, short of a barrier. What changes is that the hair ends up on something you can lift out and shake off.
How long does delivery take?
Estimated 10 to 15 business days. We're not going to promise two-day delivery because it wouldn't be true: it ships from the supplier's warehouse overseas. Shipping is free, and you get the tracking number the moment it leaves.
Which countries do you ship to?
Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Shipping is free to all of them, with nothing added at checkout. Remote and regional addresses can run a few days past the estimate and there's nothing we can do to speed that up, so we'd rather you knew before you ordered than after.
Can I return it?
You've got 90 days to change your mind and get your money back, for any reason, including that it doesn't suit your car. Separately from that, and regardless of what any store policy says, our goods come with consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded under the law where you live — the Australian Consumer Law in Australia, the Consumer Guarantees Act in New Zealand, the Consumer Rights Act in the United Kingdom. If it's faulty, not fit for purpose or not as described, you're entitled to a repair, replacement or refund. Those are two different things and both of them cover you.
Where does it ship from?
From our supplier's warehouse overseas, not from a warehouse in your own country. It's an imported product and we're not going to dress that up as locally made. What doesn't change is who you deal with if something goes wrong: you email us and we sort it out.

Take him with you again.

Safety warnings

This is a seat cover, not a restraint. It is not crash tested and it does not replace a harness or a crate. Keep restraining your dog the way you already do — the cover has seat belt openings so that you can.

Do not let the cover, its straps or its buckles sit over a seat belt buckle, a seat belt anchor point or a side airbag seam. Check that every belt still latches properly before you drive off.

Keep loose strap ends away from the driver, the gear selector and the pedals. Check the straps and buckles before each trip and stop using it if any of them are frayed or cracked.

Not a chew toy. A dog that chews the cover can swallow fabric or foam. Supervise the first few trips and take it out if your dog works at it.

Never leave a dog alone in a parked car. The mesh window helps air move around inside the cover; it does nothing about the temperature of the car itself.

Let it dry fully before refitting it. A cover put back wet traps damp against the upholstery.
